On the travel lift
A few words and a shared toast of port with friends who gratefully showed up. A splash of port on the stem and for the ocean and she was on her way
First touch of the ocean.
Floating and a bit high in the bow as she should be since there is no mast, bowsprit or ground tackle.
At the travel lift dock. Am very pleased with how she looks and her lines.
At the tiller with my mother. Was pleased with the rudder and response.
A great break in the weather and a beautiful evening.
Pusher boat with grateful help from friends.
Floating at her slip. A little nerve wracking docking her without being familiar yet with how she handles but luckily we had lots of room and help.
Set up a crutch and boom so we could have a tarp over the cockpit and need to get sewing the canvas work
She's absolutely exquisite! Congratulations.
ReplyDeleteThank you very much Tim
DeleteCongratulations! She's lovely to see finally sitting in the water.
ReplyDeleteMany Thanks Dan,
DeleteIt sure is great to see how she looks in the water and from some distance. The perspective in the workshop just is not the same and you cannot get far enough away to really see how she will look. It was a big moment to see her emerge from the workshop into daylight and be able to stand back and see her lines. Love Lyle's cutters!
We have enjoyed all of our talks and visits aboard MAGIC and ASTRID over the years and are delighted that your creation is finally afloat. Beautifully done, Kaj! Lyle would be so pleased to see her as well.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for everything Craig and Vicky. ASTRID would not be what she is without your advice, design work and guidance over the years. The details and aesthetic of your beautiful schooner MAGIC were an obvious and very large influence on my building ASTRID.
DeleteKai absolutely beautiful, delighted to see her kiss the water, but no flowers!! May I wish you fair winds and much happiness what a lot of work and a truly delightful result you should be very proud of yourself.
ReplyDeleteThank you very much Stewart. Your right! I forgot! I should have made a wreath for the bow on launching but I totally forgot with so many things to finish and think of. What a shame but hopefully ASTRID will forgive me! All the best to you.
DeleteWow. Astrid is splendid. Congratulations Kaj. Thanks for sharing the build.Lots of really well thought out details. I think I'll copy that sitz bath ;)
ReplyDeleteI'll be in BC in a few weeks and would love to see her.
Thank you Justin! E-mail me when you get to Victoria and your very welcome to come by.
